A modern St George and the dragon for the Diamond Jubilee

In 2012 the nation had plenty to celebrate. The world watched as the United Kingdom impressed on the international stage, hosting the London 2012 Olympic Games. Throughout the year, a programme of events, from a flotilla to a concert on The Mall, celebrated Her Majesty The Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

This 22 carat gold Half-Sovereign was struck in the year of the Diamond Jubilee and is dated 2012. The reverse features a rare departure from Pistrucci's classic, with a modern St George and the dragon design by Paul Day, while the obverse bears the fourth definitive coinage portrait of The Queen by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS.
