The classic childhood character Mary Poppins first blew in on an east wind to Number Seventeen, Cherry Tree Lane more than 90 years ago. P. L. Travers’ classic children’s books saw the practically perfect nanny take the Banks children on several magical adventures over the course of an eight-book series. For the reverse of this UK coin, product designer Emma Noble has remastered an original illustration by Mary Shepherd that shows Mary Poppins making her way on east wind with her umbrella and carpet bag in hand.
