The 2007 £2 coin commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act, passed by the British Parliament in 1807. Designed by David Gentleman, the reverse features a powerful and symbolic depiction of a broken chain link, representing the end of the transatlantic slave trade. The broken link also forms the "0" in the year "1807," surrounded by the inscription "AN ACT FOR THE ABOLITION OF THE SLAVE TRADE" and the anniversary year, 2007.

This design serves as a reminder of one of history's pivotal moments, honouring the abolitionist movement led by figures like William Wilberforce and countless others who fought tirelessly to end this inhuman practice. The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, created by Ian Rank-Broadley. This commemorative coin stands as both a tribute to the progress made in human rights and a reflection on the enduring legacy of those who opposed the atrocities of slavery.
