The Trial of the Pyx
An ancient ceremony steeped in numismatic history, the Trial of the Pyx takes place every year at Goldsmiths’ Hall in London. Coins are assessed for their quality and accuracy in a traditional ceremony overseen by The King’s Remembrancer. Running since the thirteenth century, the Trial of the Pyx has continued throughout political upheaval and wartime and, more recently, weathered the Covid-19 pandemic to ensure the coins we produce at The Royal Mint meet the exacting standards that are set for coinage.
