The Royal Mint Experience in Top 10% of Attractions Worldwide For Fourth Consecutive Year
- The Royal Mint Experience has won the Trip Advisor Travellers Choice Award for the fourth consecutive year.
- The Royal Mint Experience is in the top 10% of attractions worldwide and has received over 1,200 “excellent” reviews.
The Royal Mint Experience, located in Llantrisant, South Wales, has been awarded the ‘2023 Travellers’ Choice Award by Trip Advisor’ for the fourth consecutive year, ranking amongst the top 10% of attractions worldwide for customer experience. The attraction has received over 1,800 Trip Advisor ratings since it opened, with over 1,200 reviews ranking The Royal Mint Experience as “excellent”.
The Royal Mint Experience celebrated its 7th anniversary in May and welcomes thousands of visitors each year. The truly unique attraction takes visitors ‘behind the scenes’ to see the craftsmanship involved in making the nation’s coinage, followed by an interactive exhibition exploring 1,100 years of The Royal Mint’s history, as well as offering visitors the chance to strike their own UK coin. The exhibition features some of the rarest coins ever produced, including a 1933 penny. The 1933 penny is so rare because in 1933 The Royal Mint temporarily ceased the production of pennies due to the millions of Victorian and Edwardian pennies already in circulation.
The last year has marked one of the biggest changes in UK coinage history since decimalisation, with the official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles II being unveiled. The Royal Mint Experience has been central to telling this story and sharing information with the public, with visitors being able to see the first circulating coins featuring King Charles II being struck.
The Royal Mint Experience offers temporary exhibitions throughout the year to engage visitors. Most recently, The Royal Mint Experience unveiled a brand-new exhibition in celebration of His Majesty King Charles II’s Coronation. Named ‘Crowned: The Making of a Monarch’, the exhibition celebrates the traditions at the centre of Coronations and displays a number of unique artefacts to the public for the first time. These include a selection of coins dating from the reign of Alfred the Great to Coronation commemorative coins, sovereigns, and the original artwork and sketches behind the 2023 Coronation coin issued this year
One reviewer commented: “Absolutely fantastic, a great and very interesting tour and our tour guide Marie was so enthusiastic and engaging, she was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. (I) would recommend the tour for all ages.” June 2023
Dan Johnson, Visitor Attraction Manager at The Royal Mint Experience said: “We are delighted to receive the Travellers’ Choice award by Trip Advisor, and our visitors, for the fourth year running. This is a well-deserved credit to our fantastic tour guides and the whole team who pull out all the stops to make each visit a memorable one. This year has been monumental to coinage in the United Kingdom, and at The Royal Mint Experience we are honoured to showcase these significant occasions to so many new visitors who are fascinated by The Royal Mint’s pivotal role in introducing His Majesty King Charles III onto our coins.
The Royal Mint Experience is currently open seven days a week from 09:15am, with tours running from 9:30am to 3pm.To find out more and to book tickets, visit www.royalmint.com/experience

Celebrating with The Royal Mint:
For over a thousand years The Royal Mint has marked the moments that changed the world on coins - from coronations to conflict, from commemorations to celebrations. The designs are captured on commemorative coins, minted in a range of metals. Commemorative coins do not always enter circulation but give collectors the chance to purchase coins to keep and cherish. Recent themes have included David Bowie, Winnie the Pooh, Decimalisation and Team GB. Each commemorative coin is carefully struck up to three times in order to create a superbly detailed finish, and ensuring each one meets the standards The Royal Mint is famous for.
